Columbia River Maritime Museum is one of the best-known museums in the state. Columbia River maritime museum is filled with dramatic exhibits featuring surprisingly realistic depictions of coastguard rescues, fishermen pulling in salmon and tuna, and bar pilots guiding boats through the notoriously dangerous Columbia River Bar which has a very chilling nickname; the “Graveyard of the Pacific.” This museum offers a variety of ways to educate yourself on the biggest natural feature that defines Astoria- The Sea. Columbia Maritime Museum is located about ten miles (16 km) southeast of the mouth of the Columbia River in Astoria, Oregon.
It has a reputation nation wide for the quality it exhibits. The museum was opened 60 years ago. The museum is accredited by the American Alliance of Museums.[6] It is the official state maritime museum for Oregon. Classes, workshops, demonstrations, lectures, and other educational programs are regularly conducted at the Columbia River Maritime Museum.
